On Saturday,
August 1, 2009, the World Police and Fire Games
Bodybuilding event took place at the Michael J.
Fox Theatre in Burnaby.
Sgt. Miriam Booth
of the Strategic Planning Unit at RCMP “E”
Division Headquarters won a Gold Medal at this
her first bodybuilding competition.
She was one of 8
female athletes who competed in what is primarily
a male competition.
An 18 year veteran
of the RCMP, Booth had dreamed of competing in
a bodybuilding competition since she was in High
School and considered competing in the Games.
“When I heard
the Games were being held in Burnaby, I thought
it would be the perfect opportunity to fulfill
my dream, and, turning 40 years old the same year,
it would be the perfect Birthday present to myself.”
Booth said.
Before she knew
it, it was January 1st 2009 and she found herself
heavier and more out of shape than ever before.
“My boyfriend was still convinced that I
could do it and encouraged me to give it a try.”
she said.
Sgt. Booth began
a training and diet regimen and in February knew
that she was going to need some help in reaching
her goal. She hired Kerry Marshall, a personal
trainer in Tri-City area and by competition day
had lost and astounding 44 lbs and approximately
22 % body fat in order to be ready for the event. |
